News and Updates

Gamexe.net is back, phpBB3, and more

Yeap, after 4 days of downtime (I counted every minute), Gamexe.net and all sites hosted under it are finally back! What exactly happened? Well, we went through a few misunderstandings with our hosting company, but everything's been settled and we're now running on some fancy VPS hardware.

After being brought back to life, however, I couldn't just leave the site and forums as is. Nope, after finally making the full switch to PHP5, I decided to upgrade the forums to phpBB3. I have to say, it's a lot more complex than I had first thought, and it's going to be an interesting experience MODing and creating new styles for it. As a note, GuildWarsAlliance is the only phpBB3 style currently available on the forums, but I intend to bring back SmoothTech and create a few others soon enough.

So, what else is going on? Well, TheBrawl.Net is currently looking for signature designers to assist with their Super Smash Bros. Brawl Signature Generator. If you'd like to help out, then please visit the following topic: http://www.gamexe.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1098.

Also, I'd just like to remind everyone to put in their votes for the latest SOTW, which can be found at http://www.gamexe.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1055. We've gotten quite a few great entries this time around, and so I think it'll be a close one.

Anyway, that's all for now. If you aren't satisfied with the update, then have a cookie, on the house.
Cheers.

First actual update in a while

Well, it's about time a real update comes along, right? So, here it goes.

Firstly, the two WordPress themes that had been entered in the Lunarpages WordPress design contest have now been made available to the public for download. The first of the two, LunaBlue, is a stylish, simple blue design.

Not too bad, eh? Well, if you like this one, you can view its official topic at http://gamexe.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1066.

The second of the two WordPress designs is called Ruins. It's one of my more original designs, to say the least. It's a bit hard to explain, so perhaps an image may better describe it:

It too can be found and downloaded from the following topic: http://gamexe.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1067.

Also, after probably over a year of requests, the GuildWarsAlliance phpBB style has been updated and modified for phpBB3. You can view a preview by clicking here, and download the style by going to its topic found at: http://gamexe.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1065. Don't fret, this won't be the only style made for phpBB3, so others can expected.

And with the release of SSBB approaching, a new SOTW has been created. There aren't too many entries just yet, so we ask that users check out the following topic for more information: http://www.gamexe.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1055

Finally, I'd like to announce the creation of a new Super Smash Bros. Brawl site titled TheBrawl.net. The fan site is currently being developed by Mike and I, and many neat features are in the works. I'd recommend checking it out by clicking here and visiting often for Super Smash Bros. Brawl updates as well using some of the cool extras that will be released soon.

Well, I think this will due as an update for now.
Cheers.

Final 12 - Lunarpages Wordpress Design contest

That's right, the final 12 entries have finally been selected for the Lunarpages Wordpress design contest. One of my own entries, Ruins, was selected for the final voting, and I'm glad to see that it was an appreciated entry.

Anyway, the page for voting and such can be found at: http://blog.lunarpages.com/2008/01/23/f ... n-contest/
Voting will end in probably a couple days, so be sure to vote for your favourite entry soon!

WordPress Design Contest

My hosting company, Lunarpages, recently decided to hold a WordPress design contest. The prizes for the contest consist of $1000 for first place, $300 for second, and $100 for third, as well as free hosting. Of course, I thought to myself: what do I have to lose, and decided to enter. The theme I created can be found at:
http://blog.lunarpages.com/contest/index.php?preview_theme=ruins

I have some good competition this round of the contest, and the round is about to end in a couple days. I'd recommend for all to visit the blog itself and vote for your favourite entry of the bunch by going to:
http://blog.lunarpages.com/2007/12/31/wordpress-design-contest-vote-on-round-4/
Here's hoping for a friendly and fair competition.
Cheers.

-EDIT: January 7, 2008

As I had expected, I lost that round. However, round 5 has begun and yet another one of my entries has been selected. My design can be viewed and voting can be done at the following url:

Gamexe.net and others back online!

Yeap, Gamexe.net and other sites hosted or associate with it are now back online! What happened? Well, we ended up hogging a few too many resources on our previous web hosting plan, so we had to upgrade to a dedicated server. It's taken quite some time to get the site back up, but now that it is, I hope we can all get back to our usual designing routine.

Server move and new proxy service

Yes, Gamexe.net as well as all other domains hosted on the account experienced some downtime yesterday and today as we switched servers to one with PHP5 enabled. Why the sudden switch? Well, I would like to take advantage of some of the new functions available in PHP5, and I'd also like to support http://www.gophp5.org/.

Now, what have I been up to for the past couple days? Well, it's no secret. I've just launched yet another proxy service, this one titled PlzDontBlock.Us. This proxy, unlike InSchoolProxy, has been modified as to allow Youtube and Facebook to be viewed properly. Yes, that means that you'll be able to login to Facebook, as well as watch Youtube videos when at work or school. InSchoolProxy should also be expected to have such features sometime within the week.

Well, that's all for now. Hope you enjoy this new addition.

Quick update

Just letting you all know that our Aardvark Topsites PHP Skins have been updated. The Unique/Hits Out problem has been fixed, and those stats should now be recorded as expected. This issue was fixed, luckily, while still meeting the requirements for being valid XHTML Transitional. So if you're using the popular Topsites script and have either the BlueShadow, SmoothBlue or LightFantasy skins installed, upgrading to the latest version is recommended.

Also, I've setup yet another website just recently. This time, it's a proxy, and it can be found at http://inschoolproxy.com/
Image
It's still being developed, but you'll see that many important features expected of a proxy are available.

Well, that's it for now. Expect more updates soon as I try to catch up on things.

Still alive.

Yeap, I'm still alive, and I do intend to continue updating the site with some fresh new content. What have I been up to since the last update? Well, for one, I've been developing some new phpBB styles for the upcoming phpBB3, in which the latest release is RC7. What does this mean? You can all expect some great new phpBB templates to be released to the public when the latest version of the popular forum software goes Gold.

Also, I've been working on some little side projects, including a new blog which I've released that can be found at
http://theninjablog.com/
I'd like to become a bit more familiar with Wordpress in hopes of eventually providing some free addons and other content for the software, and this is an example site. I do plan on updating the blog, however, with humerous ninja-related entries. I'd certainly recommend giving it look.

Anything else? Well, you can all expect some new tutorials and content this upcoming weekend. I have a day open on my calendar, and it has Gamexe.net written all over it.
T'ill next time.

Two new tutorials have been added to our collection. The first consists of the creation of a Sparkle Effect in Photoshop which can be used in signatures and such, and the second is a tutorial on importing and using Illustrator Paths, created in Photoshop, in 3d Studio Max. The later can be found in the Other Tutorials category. Several new signatures have also been added, and yet another SOTW has finished, the winning entry being displayed at the top of each page on the main site. Expect some Mario Strikers: Charged content very soon as that's what I'm currently working on. Check back soon for more updates.

Super Smash Bros Brawl!

A new gaming section has been added to Gamexe.net: a section for the Smash Bros Series. This section will contain everything from videos to character descriptions to item lists on the various Super Smash Bros Games. Currently, the section contains information on Super Smash Bros Brawl, and more content can be expected as the release date approaches. I'll be adding more SSBB content over the next week, so keep checking the section for updates.
